Updating your data settings (APN)
Accessing mobile data with plan.com
If you are on plan’s O2 network, you will need to configure your device to use mobile data and communicate via 4G Calling or MMS (media-rich text messages). These settings are available under your device’s APN (Access Point Name).
Think of an APN as a gate. On one side is the mobile internet, on the other is your device. The APN ensures your device connects to the correct service provided by plan.com
When you first connect to the plan network, you will automatically receive a “powered by plan.com” text message asking you to update your data settings. In most cases, you will still be able to use data, make calls, and send texts even before updating. However, without the correct APN, some features may not work as expected.
Updating your APN takes less than a minute and ensures your device runs smoothly.
Why do I have to change my data settings?
There are a few reasons you may need to adjust your APN:
- Data settings may not configure automatically when you activate a new SIM. Data services can take up to 24 hours after activation.
- New network features may require updated APN settings.
- Switching from another provider may mean your device is still using old settings.
Effect of changing your APN settings
Updating your APN will not affect calls or SMS, but incorrect settings may cause problems with data services. Features such as 4G Calling and Visual Voicemail require data access, so keeping your APN up to date is important.
