Think of an APN (Access Point Name) as a garden gate. On one side of the gate is the big wide world of mobile data and the Internet. On the other side, is your device. That may be a router, your laptop or your mobile phone, for example.
In order for the gate to open as you'd like and allow data to flow through freely from the other side, the correct settings have to be configured on the device receiving the mobile data.
If the correct data settings aren't present, data will probably still flow through the gate, but the wind can slam the gate shut from time to time and restrict the flow or worse, one or two device features may not consistently perform as you'd expect.
When you first connect to the plan.com network, you'll automatically receive a 'powered by plan.com' text message that will ask you to update your data settings. Typically, even before updating your data settings, you will be able to access UK mobile data, make calls and send and receive texts. So, what's the big deal? Why the hassle to change your data settings?
Well, because we want you to have the best experience possible AND if your settings aren't correct, we can't see your data usage very well. That means we can't trigger in real-time any usage notifications or cost-preventing caps you've set up, which could result in over-usage of allowances and an inflated monthly bill!
Yes, it's a pain and we're sorry, but less than a minute, that's all it takes for you to configure to the plan.com APN. So pretty please with sugar on top, please make sure you click on the link in your welcome email (sent to you the morning you joined us) or follow these instructions:
To check mobile data settings:
Apple users: SETTINGS > MOBILE DATA > MOBILE DATA NETWORK > MOBILE DATA
Android Users, click here: https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-check-my-apn-mobile-internet-settings/
The correct settings should be:
APN: data.plan.com
Username: plan
Password: password
To change mobile data settings:
Follow this guide for your operating system: https://www.plan.com/apn-settings
Even if you settings appear to be correct on-screen, it's worth making doubly sure and reconfiguring them, to prevent any grief further down the line.
Thank you.
