Premium rate services are a form of micro-payment for paid content, data services and value added services that are subsequently charged to your telephone bill.
They tend to cost more than a normal phone call or text message and usually operate on numbers beginning 09, 118, 087 or five and six digit mobile voice and text shortcodes. The premium rate industry in the UK incorporates a diverse number of services, such as:
- Directory Inquiries;
- 087 business information lines;
- Mobile games;
- Competitions and quizzes;
- Charity donations;
- Adult entertainment; and
- Chat services.
The rates are set by the service provider, not the network provider, like plan.com.

Access to premium rate services can be managed through your my.plan dashboard. To view the options, go to:
CONTROLS > PREMIUM & ROAMING > [select from sub-categories] > [select user} > ALLOWED / BLOCKED
Manage your costs by setting a Spend Control¹, through your my.plan dashboard.
Go to: CONTROLS > SPEND CONTROLS > CALL LIMITS > UK/EU VOICE > [select user] > SET UP
Alternatively, set an Ofcom Total Spend Cap². Go to:
CONTROLS > SPEND CONTROLS > OFCOM TOTAL SPEND CAP > [select user] > SET UP
